BOARD NEWS
New Directors Elected
The annual meeting of the
Savannah Council was held prior to the program on January 25, and consisted of
Reports of the President and Treasurer and the election by the membership of
seven directors to serve three year terms.
The following members were elected to the Board of Directors: Mr. H. Lee
Cassady, Ms. Dottie Lynch, Mr. Roger Smith, Mr.
Justin A. Godchaux, Shirley M. Geiger, Ph.D., Mr.
James Edward Alexander, and Mr. Martin Vernick.

After the annual meeting, the
Board of Directors met and elected the following officers to serve two year
terms:

Jr.
The
following is brief biographical information about our new President:
Sherry
graduated magna cum laude from Wake
Forest University
in 1972 with a B.A. in Spanish where she was a Carswell
Scholar and elected to Phi Beta Kappa. Her junior year was as an exchange
student at the University of the Andes in Bogota taking numerous courses in
Latin American literature, culture, anthropology, and political science. After graduation Sherry worked in management
for Southern Bell and as a stockbroker while obtaining an M.B.A. from Winthrop University in 1977. She next taught business courses at two
four-year colleges in Charlotte,
North Carolina.
After
moving to Savannah, Sherry taught in a public
high school where she served as chair of the Foreign Language Department for
ten years, sponsored the Foreign Language Club, and took students on trips
abroad to Mexico, Costa Rica, Spain,
France, England, Scotland,
Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. She is a certified Advanced Placement
instructor and received an M.Ed. in Spanish from
Georgia Southern University in 1992.
Sherry joined the faculty of Savannah
Christian Preparatory
School in 1999 where she presently teaches or has
taught Spanish I, II, III, and IV. She
sponsors the Global Forum Club and served as a co-advisor to the National Honor
Society for six years. Each summer, she
leads groups to Europe and really enjoys these
educational experiences. Since 2001 she
has traveled to Guatemala
six times with Faith in Practice, an ecumenical medical-surgical-dental mission
organization. Fluent in Spanish, she
volunteers as a translator and patient advocate. Sherry has served as President of the Coastal
Georgia-Carolina Phi Beta Kappa Association.
She was elected to the Board of SCWA in January 2002, and served as
Vice-President from 2005 through 2006.
