MISSION STATEMENT:
Our mission is to make available information, analysis, and strategic thinking about important international topics - to inform the community regarding issues concerning the relationship of the Unites States with the world. The Savannah Council was founded in 1984, and is one of the 83 councils in the US affiliated with the World Affairs Councils of America, established in 1918.
SYNOPSIS OF OUR COUNCIL:
Membership is open to everyone interested in the Savannah Council's mission and programs. Many people in our community find membership in our organization to be a valuable asset for a deeper unterstanding of international affairs. While visitors are welcome at our programs for a $5.00 charge, membership in one of the categories listed below is encouraged.
PROGRAMS:
Speakers at monthly programs, held September through May, are recognized authorities including government officials, Foreign Service experts, and professors and administrators of leading educational establishments throughout the world. Topics are chosen for their timeliness and for the background they provide for ever-changing events throughout the world.
NEWSLETTER:
Members receive a newsletter before each meeting, and it is also available online at www.savannahcwa.org. The letter gives the time and place of the meeting, a biography of the speaker, the title of the talk, and other items of pertinent interest.
STUDENTS AND MILITARY:
Junior Councils exist in public and private schools in Savannah. Convocations of Junior Councils are held periodically. All high school and college students, and active duty military, are admitted free to our programs.
All membership categories include free admission to SCWA speaker programs, eligibility to participate in the annual National Conference, and the travel program of the Philadelphia Council. Members are also entitled to discounts on selected subscriptions, and publications of certain foreign-affairs organizations. Click here for a list of these publications.
Most importantly, your modest membership dues enable us to bring stimulating, well informed speakers to Savannah and help support our many student programs.
YOUR MEMBERSHIP IS IMPORTANT!
Membership fees provide a stable, predictable financial basis for our operations. To attract knowledgeable, high quality speakers we pay travel, lodging and incidental expenses and an honorarium. In addition we underwrite student experiences such as international travel to promote understanding.
